Pricing for Commissions

Prices are based on the detail, complexity, number of subjects and size of the commission. I will provide you with a quote before I start work, and there are further options available such as framing if you require.

I charge approximately £15 per hour, plus any significant additional expenses which will be discussed and agreed prior to starting the commission.

 

I tend to leave all backgrounds plain for portraits, as I feel that detailed backgrounds detract from the subject, however I am happy to add a background at an additional cost.

I will provide you with a bespoke quote depending on the following:

  • Subject matter (complexity, detail, number of subjects) and anticipated length of time to complete it.

  • Choice of medium

  • Size of artwork

  • Delivery costs

 

Optional extras:

  • Framing and/or postage

  • Photography of the subject by me

Once we have agreed the timescale, photos, medium and size of your portrait, and any other requirements such as framing, I will provide you with a written quote. Once you have accepted the quote in writing, I will require a 20% non-refundable deposit to start your portrait.

When I have completed your portrait, I will email you a photo of it for your approval. If you would like changes, you can let me know at this stage.  Please be aware that if you wish to make significant changes that vary from the original requirements, this may incur additional costs. If you are happy with it, you will be required to pay the balance via Paypal or bank transfer (preferred), and I will post your portrait to you at the address you provide, as soon as I have receipt of your payment.

Character art, illustration and lettering

 

Chances are that you have an idea of what you would like, particularly if it is character or fantasy art, or letter design but you don’t have any photos, so part of the commission will be for me to create an original design you are happy with before I start the painting. I will need to discuss your wishes and if you have any ideas about how you want it to look, or if you have seen something similar and would like it to follow a particular style. If you are able to give me an idea using visual images that is a great start to the design process, but a clear description of what you have in mind is fine.

I include 2 hours of this design and discussion time in the commission price, but anything over that will be added to the price of the commission, and the extra will be chargeable even if you decide not to go ahead with the final commission.

Please be aware I cannot paint an exact copy of a photo unless the photo is open access or you have the copyright holder’s permission for this. This is particularly important for images on the internet.
